There are many reasons that people come to counselling.

Counselling is a safe space to work out our problems and rediscover some direction in our lives.

Counselling can be a short-term piece of work on a specific problem, or a longer-term exploration. It can be of use to anyone who wants their life to be more colourful, productive or fulfilling, and who has some areas where things are not going as well as they’d like. It’s for people who want to reflect on the questions: ‘who am I – what makes me tick – how come I am the way I am – do I need to do things differently?’ It’s for people who want to explore these questions and who don’t mind the idea that they may discover areas that are uncomfortable or unpleasant and need addressing.

The counsellor's job is to listen and understand, to ask some thought-provoking questions, sometimes to inform and occasionally to gently challenge. This can help you get some perspective on your life, understand yourself and other people, and decide what (if anything) you would like to do differently.
